A man in his 70s is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in Tameside. Emergency services were called to Huddersfield Road, in Ashton-under-Lyne, on Thursday afternoon (August 27).
Greater Manchester Police says it was called out to a collision at around 2.40pm. It is believed a Toyota Yaris was turning off Huddersfield Road when it hit the pedestrian.
Hospital treatment
The man was rushed to hospital for treatment, where he remains in a life-threatening condition this morning (Friday). GMP says the driver remained at the scene of the crash.
No arrests have been made following the incident. Part of Huddersfield Road remained closed for hours following the incident, while an air ambulance was pictured landing nearby.
Appeal for witnesses
North West Ambulance Service said it 'dispatched several ambulance resources to the scene' including the air ambulance. A spokesperson said: "A patient has been transported to Salford Royal with a serious head injury."
Witnesses are now being urged to come forward as officers continue with their enquiries. A GMP spokesperson said: "Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
"They are keen to speak to anyone who may have CCTV footage, dashcam or mobile phone footage from the area in the moments leading up to the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting log 1922 of 27/08/26."
