Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has issued a safety reminder for anyone attending the Parklife music festival taking place next weekend on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June.
Parklife Returns to Heaton Park
Manchester's biggest music festival is returning to North Manchester for another year as the biggest names in music descend on Heaton Park. Calvin Harris, Sammy Virji, and Zara Larsson are just some of the acts performing at Parklife as it officially returns next weekend.
Taking place on June 20 and 21, the Greater Manchester park will be transformed as hundreds of thousands of festival-goers pour into the venue to enjoy the sounds and tracks from some of the biggest acts in music right now.
One of the country's biggest music events, it regularly draws in more than 80,000 people over the weekend, and this year marks 16 years since it was first founded. The festival will be headlined by superstar DJ Calvin Harris, who has not headlined a show in Manchester since playing at the Manchester Arena in 2013.
Safety Advice from GMP
Ahead of the big weekend, GMP has issued a safety reminder for anyone heading to the festival. In a post on social media, festival-goers are reminded to follow safety advice from Counter Terrorism Policing by following four key points.
It said: "If you're heading to Parklife next weekend, follow safety advice from Counter Terrorism Policing. Be patient with security checks and staff. Report to security if you see something that doesn't feel right. Enjoy the event. Share the message."
GMP ended the post with the hashtag #BeSafeBeSound and attached a picture with text that read: "If you see something that doesn't feel right don't dance around it. Tell security."
Previous Incidents and Security Measures
The reminder comes after the festival has seen 'violent disorder' in previous years, including 52 arrests in 2024 after police seized 'illegal drugs and weapons'. At the time, GMP said that the 'vast majority of attendees enjoyed themselves responsibly' but that the drugs and weapons seized could have had 'serious and fatal consequences if they managed to get inside the festival site.'
Festival-goers are also reminded that there is no re-entry into the festival whatsoever each day this year, due to security reasons. If you attend all weekend, you will get searched again when you enter on the Sunday.
