One Seriously Injured in Byker Incident, Road Cordoned

A major police incident in Byker, Newcastle, has left one person seriously injured, with Shields Road still cordoned off on Wednesday morning. Emergency services rushed to the scene just before 7:30 PM on Tuesday following reports of a disturbance.

Emergency Response

Multiple police vehicles were seen behind the cordon last night, and traffic cameras confirm they remain at the scene. The North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance Service also attended. The ambulance service deployed two ambulances, a clinical team leader, and members of its Hazardous Area Response Team. The patient was transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Official Statements

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 19.24 last night (Tuesday 16 June) to reports of a person seriously injured on Shields Road in Byker, Newcastle. We sent two emergency ambulance crews to the scene along with a clinical team leader, our Hazardous Area Response Team and the Great North Air Ambulance, who treated and transported the patient to the RVI."

Northumbria Police reported: "At 7.25pm today (Tuesday) we received a report of a disturbance on Shields Road in the Byker area of Newcastle. Emergency services are in attendance. A section of the road has been closed to traffic. There is no wider risk to the public."
