One hospitalised after North Tyneside crash

One person has been taken to hospital following a serious crash in North Tyneside that led to a road closure. Emergency services rushed to the scene in Benton after a collision at the junction of Benton Lane and Goathland Avenue.

Incident details

Ambulance crews and the Great North Air Ambulance Service helicopter were called to the scene shortly after 9am on Sunday. One individual received treatment at the scene before being transported to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Newcastle by road ambulance.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed the call was received at 9.26am. They stated: "We dispatched an ambulance crew and specialist paramedic to the scene, and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) who attended by air. One patient was taken to the RVI by road for further treatment."

Emergency response

The air ambulance, carrying two paramedics and a doctor, landed at 10.01am. A Forensic Collision Investigation Unit police van was also present at the scene to investigate the cause of the collision.

Road reopening

The road was temporarily closed in both directions while emergency services worked at the scene. It has since fully reopened, and traffic has returned to normal after the accident scene was cleared.
