A French off-duty police officer has detained a man after he attacked and wounded three women with two kitchen knives in Paris on Monday. Three women aged 19, 24 and 36 were taken to hospital following the assault at about 11.30am in the Porte de Clichy area in the north of the capital.
Attack and Arrest
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said two of the women were gravely wounded but their lives were not in danger: one was injured in the lower back, the other in the abdomen. The perpetrator was apprehended by an off-duty police officer, Nuñez added. Geoffroy Boulard, the mayor of the north-west 17th arrondissement where the stabbings occurred, said on X that one of the three women was pregnant.
Kheira Dellabed, 54, a waitress who witnessed the incident, said: “We saw a man walk by with two knives and stab three people. Then a young man with a small suitcase hit him with his bag, knocking him to the ground.” A waiter then placed a chair on the suspect, she said.
Motive Unclear
The identity of the suspect and his motive were not immediately clear. Nuñez said the man had made “incoherent statements”, but the minister advised against jumping to conclusions on the man’s motives.
