A young student at New York University was violently thrown to the ground in a shocking random assault as she walked to a morning class in Manhattan.
Broad Daylight Attack on Broadway
The incident occurred on Monday, December 1, 2025, at approximately 9:22 am. Amelia Lewis, 20, was walking down Broadway near Washington Square Park when an unidentified man crept up behind her and launched a sudden attack.
Surveillance footage of the assault shows Amelia, who was wearing headphones, being slapped from behind and then pulled by her hair before she fell to the ground. Bystanders watched in shock as the attack unfolded, before the assailant made a quick escape.
A Known Serial Offender on Campus
In a post on her X account, Amelia revealed that NYU staff identified the aggressor as a serial attacker who has been targeting multiple women around the university campus. She provided a detailed description to help others identify him.
"It actually is the guy that has been assaulting many girls around campus," Amelia wrote. "He is a tall white male with long brunette hair and a long brunette beard. He is wearing grey sweatpants and a big black puffer jacket and a blue towel around his neck."
She urged anyone who sees him to call 911 immediately and report him to the police, adding: "He has done this to so many girls, and this is disgusting."
Outrage and Political Commentary
Amelia expressed her anger and fear following the attack, stating that students should not feel scared walking to their classes. Her comments took a political turn as she called for action and suggested voters reflect on their choices.
"We need to get these people, that is not okay," she said. "I am still in shock but I am more enraged that things like this are able to happen in this city. We really need to do something about it because this is unacceptable."
Her final remark appeared to reference Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani, who recently won the city's mayoral race. Mamdani, who will be sworn in in the new year, has proposed expanding violence interrupter programmes and mental health teams to curb such attacks, rather than increasing traditional police presence.
The story gained wider attention when conservative commentator and SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly shared the video on her own X profile, revealing she is a family friend of the victim.
The New York City Police Department confirmed to the Daily Mail that the investigation remains active. The assailant approached the victim from behind, slapped her head and buttocks, and pulled her hair before fleeing. No arrests have been made.
