A 17-year-old Norwegian teenager, Nikoline, who was reported missing after a night out celebrating Norway's World Cup victory, was killed in a hit-and-run crash involving a lorry on Spain's Costa del Sol. The incident occurred on the A7 motorway near Cala de Mijas, about 30 minutes outside Marbella, just before 5:30 a.m. on July 6, 2026.
Disappearance and Discovery
Nikoline had been out with friends at the popular Puerto Banus nightclub Funky Buddha. She vanished between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. while a female friend went to the toilet. Her mother reported her missing after launching a social media appeal, saying her daughter had not returned home. The teenager was due to return to Norway that day to attend a close friend's birthday party.
Police later confirmed that Nikoline was the victim of the hit-and-run. A witness who called 999 reported that a woman had been struck by a lorry whose driver fled the scene. The teenager was not carrying identification, but police identified her after her family reported her disappearance.
Details of the Incident
Nikoline's mobile phone data showed she was on Julio Iglesias Avenue near the nightspot at around 3:30 a.m., but after that, the signal stopped. Her family's last contact with her was around 1:30 a.m. local time. Her mother and stepdad searched the port area before contacting police in Fuengirola.
The mother told Spanish media: 'Every time she stays out late, she tends to maintain contact with us.' The missing appeal with Nikoline's picture has since been removed from social media.
Investigation and Aftermath
Detectives are hunting the driver of the lorry, but no arrests have been reported. The news of the incident emerged earlier in the day, but the victim's identity was confirmed later. British holidaymakers and expats were asked to look out for the Norwegian teenager in an appeal published around midday on July 6, hours after Norway beat Brazil 2-1 to reach the World Cup finals for the first time.
Nikoline had been holidaying in the area since June 19 and was staying with family in the Fuengirola area. She lived in Norway with her biological father.
