Two brothers who own a bakery in Paterson, New Jersey, were stabbed and slashed by a customer who was unhappy about a sandwich he had purchased four years earlier, police said. The attack occurred on 31 July at Baladna Bakery.
According to Moneer Simrin, a friend of the victims, the assailant confronted Mohammed Assad about being given an eggplant sandwich instead of the egg sandwich he ordered years ago. The customer claimed the sandwich made him ill. When the brothers offered a refund or credit, the man became abusive and was asked to leave, at which point he pulled out a knife.
The suspect allegedly stabbed Mohammed in the chest and slashed Abed on the arm when he intervened. Both victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses reported hearing screams and seeing one victim outside clutching his bloody arm.
Police spokesman Rob Rowan confirmed the details, stating that the suspect remains at large and the major crimes unit is investigating. The bakery was closed over the weekend.
