Fire crews are tackling a number of wildfires across south Wales as multiple fires burn in Blaenavon, as well as others in Ferndale, Pengarnddu, Llangynidr, and Rogerstone. The blazes are burning as another burst of summer heat is set to sweep across the country in the coming days.
Blaze at Llangynidr Reservoir under control
Another wildfire at Llangynidr Reservoir near Ebbw Vale is now however considered to be under control but fire crews from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service remain at the scene as work continues to bring the wildfire to a safe conclusion.
Those who live near any of the impacted areas are being advised to keep all windows and doors closed due to the smoke.
Wildfires also burning in England
A number of serious wildfires are also burning in England. A huge wildfire in the New Forest is now said to be under control having forced 23 drivers to abandon their vehicles and shut the A31 in Hampshire.
Over 120 firefighters have been tackling the heathland blaze and the fire service has warned that the firefighting operation could still last for days despite the blaze having reduced slightly overnight.
Fire risk warning ahead of heatwave
Ahead of the next heatwave, fire chiefs have warned of sustained fire risk in the hot, dry conditions, with July the busiest on record for wildfires and firefighters responding to 185 wildfires in the first 10 days of August.
Confirming the latest incident, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service wrote: "There is another wildfire in Blaenavon, our crews are in attendance and working hard to bring the incident to a safe close."
"Please avoid the incident ground and do not fly personal drones as this may affect our operational activity."
