Police in Santa Fe, Texas have issued a warning after parents reported finding needles in candy handed out during a homecoming parade. The Santa Fe Police Department said they received several calls from concerned parents about pen-style needles discovered in sweets collected at the parade.
In a Facebook post, the department urged parents to thoroughly check any candy picked up along the parade route before giving it to children. Authorities have asked anyone with information to contact the police non-emergency line. No injuries have been reported.
While tales of tainted Halloween candy are common in the US, substantiated cases are rare. Some residents questioned the evidence, with one suggesting a sewing pin could have fallen from a decoration. Forensic psychologist Dr Joni Johnston noted that no documented case of random poisoning exists, and incidents involving sharp objects typically result in no injuries.
