Almost 40 people have been injured after a coach and fuel tanker crashed and flipped over in central Turkey, according to local news reports.
Sources say between 35 and 39 people have been injured in the crash, which took place in the Kocasinan district of Kayseri Province, in central Anatolia. Four are said to be in a ‘critical condition’.
Emergency response and investigation
News of the incident first broke on Tuesday (August 25) morning. Police, ambulances, fire crews, and the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority were dispatched to the scene, according to Turkish news outlet Haberler.
An investigation has been launched by authorities.
Location and circumstances
It’s thought the incident occurred on an industrial road roughly 200 miles south-east of Ankara, the Turkish capital. Kayseri Province is mountainous, with some of the highest peaks in the country, and serves as a transit hub.
Reports suggest the fuel tanker collided with the bus, leading both vehicles to tip over. Fuel is said to have spilled onto the road.
Coach operator
The coach was operated by Cizre Nuh, a travel company that specialises in intercity coach travel to and from the capital. Images from the scene show it on its side.
Cizre Nuh does not appear to have commented publicly on the incident.
