The daughter of a murder victim has said his suspected killer should “burn in hell” after the man took his own life during a police hunt for him.
Cerys Lafferty spoke out after the Daily Record revealed Ross Torrance was the man detectives believe stabbed her father, Paul Lafferty, 50, to death.
Discovery and suicide
Paul Lafferty, a Celtic fan, was found dead alongside Gary Beaton, 54, in Partick, Glasgow, on August 16. A day later, 38-year-old Torrance killed himself under George V Bridge in Glasgow city centre.
Police Scotland said he would have been arrested for the double killings had he been traced alive.
Family's grief
Cerys, a journalist from Pembrokeshire, Wales, said: “Torrance should burn in hell for what he did to my dad.”
She revealed Paul, a fork-lift driver, was a loving grandad to her two-year-old daughter Savannah and also a cherished father to her sister Jade, 26.
She said: “Last month, my family received the most devastating news of our lives. My dad was cruelly taken from us, and we have been left trying to navigate a world that suddenly feels very different without him. My dad was a son, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a friend, a father and a grandfather.
“He meant so much to so many people, and now we have all been left to pick up the pieces after this awful tragedy. I hope my dad knew, in his final moments, just how much he truly meant to every single one of us. I will love him and I will miss him every single day for the rest of my life.”
Tributes and support
Cerys thanked well-wishers for sending her family their love and support since his death. She said: “My dad was such a funny person. He was kind, supportive and loved the people around him unconditionally.
“Over the past month, it has been incredibly heartwarming to read the messages from people who knew him - describing him as a wonderful colleague, a great friend and even a friendly and polite neighbour. It has reminded us just how many lives he touched.
“I would also like to thank Lynn Kelly for setting up a GoFundMe to help with the cost of his funeral. No amount of money could ever take away the pain we are feeling, but her kindness, and the kindness of everyone who has donated, has lifted a huge burden at a time when our family is already going through so much.
“We are incredibly grateful. Rest peacefully, Dad.”
