A 32-year-old woman in Wyong, Australia, has been arrested after allegedly cooking and eating parts of her four-year-old son's arm. The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, turned herself in to police, telling officers she had consumed parts of the child's remains. Investigators subsequently searched her property and discovered the dismembered body, which sources said had been 'filleted' before cooking.
Details of the Incident
The crime occurred in New South Wales, and police described the scene as 'extremely confronting.' The four-year-old had been dead for some time and sustained significant injuries to his arm and leg. The woman, who has a history of mental health issues and drug addiction, had minimal contact with the courts in recent years, according to The Australian.
Legal Proceedings
The woman was charged with one count of murder and refused bail during a court appearance on Sunday. Superintendent Chad Gillies of Tuggerah Lakes Police District said: 'My priority at the moment now is to work through the investigation with detectives to understand exactly what happened and why it happened, and importantly, as well, providing welfare to all the police that attended last night and through the investigation.' He added: 'Whenever a child is a victim of violent crime and whenever a child is murdered, it strikes at the core of community. That’s why it’s absolutely important we work through this methodically, we try to understand what’s happened, why it happened.'
Next Court Appearance
Superintendent Gillies further stated: 'From my perspective, we owe that to that little boy to make sure that we get the exact circumstances and present them to the court in due course, and that is the focus over the coming days and weeks for investigators.' The 32-year-old woman is scheduled to next appear in court on September 1.
