Victim identified as Caroline Peña

A mother of five children has been stabbed to death in broad daylight in Texas, and three women have been charged with murder. Local media identified the victim as 32-year-old Caroline Peña. The Del Rio Police Department said in a Facebook post that officers were called to Val Verde Regional Medical Centre in Del Rio at about 2:10 p.m. local time on Thursday, June 25.

Chilling details of the attack

Police revealed that the mother suffered multiple stab injuries in the attack, which occurred at a busy road. The severity of her injuries required her to be taken to a hospital in San Antonio for emergency treatment. According to Fox News, the force said detectives were informed at 9 p.m. local time that she had succumbed to her injuries and died. US media reports indicate that Ms. Peña was stabbed twice in the back and once in the stomach.

Three women arrested and charged

Less than two hours after the attack, Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, and Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19, were arrested. Their friend, Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, was detained by police soon after. All three have been charged with murder and taken to a correctional facility, where they remain, according to police.

Friends and family mourn

Zelina Ochoa, described as a childhood friend of Ms. Peña, told KENS 5: "She was one of those people that she was born to be a mom. She really loved being a mom." Christina Salina told the same outlet that she had a missed call from Ms. Peña just before the alleged attack and learned what happened when she saw a photo of her injured friend on social media. Salina said: "I feel like if I would have answered that call, honestly I would have been there with her. It wouldn’t have gotten like that."
