A 50-year-old mother of four was found dead inside a 20-foot reticulated python in Indonesia after going missing. The woman, named Farida, was swallowed whole by the snake, which is the longest in the world.
Discovery and Recovery
Farida disappeared while walking through a forest in Kaumpang, an agricultural province in the Mamuju Regency of West Sulawesi, Indonesia, on her usual route to sell food at a market. The python reportedly approached her, sank its teeth into her leg, and strangled her before swallowing her body headfirst.
After she failed to return home, her husband, Noni, grew worried and contacted locals. The search party, including authorities, found the 20-foot python in a wooded area the next day. The snake's protruding stomach led them to cut it open with machetes, revealing Farida's fully clothed body covered in digestive liquid.
Community Reaction
The village head, Suardi Rosi, said that Noni had been searching for his wife in the forest and found the snake, which he captured with the help of other villagers. Rosi noted that this was the first such incident in the area, although similar cases have occurred in Indonesia in recent years.
Farida's funeral was held in the Pitu Riawa district of Sidrap Regency. Noni expressed his grief, saying: "I am forever sorry that I let my wife go out alone. If I had been with her that day, the snake would not have dared to touch her. I feel sorry for the suffering she went through. I am sorry for our family."
