A mother accused of stabbing her husband and their three-year-old son to death at a family resort hotel told medics she worked so hard "to be the best mother and wife," police have said.
Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, has been charged with two counts of Criminal Homicide after her husband and child were found dead in the family's hotel room in Pennsylvania on Monday.
911 call and discovery
Officers with the Pocono Township Police Department were dispatched to the Great Wolfe Lodge hotel at approximately 3.13pm local time after receiving a report of a "female in distress," the force said in a statement.
Authorities confirmed that Harrison had called 911 herself and told the dispatcher "that she needed help committing suicide," police said. Harrison allegedly said during the call that she wanted to join her husband and son.
"My husband and son are already gone in the bed in the living room. They're already gone, I'm sorry," she told the operator, police said.
Injuries and statements
Cops rushed to the hotel room, where they found Harrison's husband and 3-year-old son dead. Harrison's husband had sustained multiple stab wounds while her son suffered a singular stab wound to the chest, the US Mirror reports.
Harrison had also sustained injuries and was transported to hospital. On her way there, she allegedly told paramedics that she was "not supposed to be here."
"Everyday I work so hard. To be the best person, the best mother, the best wife," she said, according to police. "It wasn't supposed to end like this. I was supposed to have my happy family. That's what I envisioned since I was a child."
Scene and investigation
Officers also discovered several bottles of medication and containers with what they believe to be blood inside at the scene. The family had checked into the resort on September 21.
They had initially been set to check out on October 5 but extended their stay until Tuesday. Police said there was no ongoing threat to public safety as they determined the incident was a "violent domestic tragedy."
Following her arrest, Harrison allegedly refused to speak with police and told officers she is "suicidal, not stupid," according to an affidavit.
Authorities have not shared a motive for the double murder. The investigation is ongoing as Harrison awaits arraignment in front of Magisterial District Judge Daniel Kresge.
Jason Lasecki, vice president of corporate communications for Great Wolf Lodge, said they were "deeply saddened and heartbroken" by the incident.
"It was an isolated family incident, and we're cooperating fully with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of those affected," he said in a statement.
