MK Dons terminate Mendez-Laing contract after assault charge

MK Dons have terminated the contract of former Cardiff City winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing by mutual consent after he was charged with assault by beating.

The 34-year-old denied the charge when he appeared at Cannock Magistrates' Court on September 25 and is due to stand trial at the same court on January 7, 2027.

MK Dons spell and promotion

Mendez-Laing, who also counts Rochdale, Peterborough United and Derby County among his former clubs, joined MK Dons in May 2025 and made 29 appearances for the Buckinghamshire outfit.

The Guatemala international scored nine goals as MK Dons finished runners-up in League Two last season, securing promotion.

In a statement confirming his departure, the club said: "We thank Nathaniel for his efforts during his time at Stadium MK and wish him all the best for the future."

Former Cardiff career

Mendez-Laing's exit brings an end to his spell at Stadium MK following the club's promotion campaign.

The winger previously enjoyed a three-year spell at Cardiff City, where he established himself after arriving from Rochdale in 2017.

He made 67 appearances for the Bluebirds, scoring 11 goals, and was part of the side that won promotion to the Premier League in the 2017/18 season.

However, Mendez-Laing's Cardiff career came to an abrupt end in September 2020, when the club terminated his deal following a breach of contract.
