A terrified mother is living in fear after a masked gang smashed up her car and the windows of her home in Cambuslang, before later returning to torch the vehicle. Audrey Caughey, 54, was targeted at her home on Staffa Road on Monday, June 29, 2026.
Horror CCTV captures the attack
CCTV footage from the property shows four men wearing balaclavas and dressed all in black storming towards the house armed with poles and bats. They raced towards Audrey’s silver car, battering it with weapons, smashing windows and lights, before moving on to a red car parked beside it. The yobs then targeted the house, shattering the front window before the clip ends.
Audrey, who lives alone, believes she was targeted in a case of mistaken identity. She said: “The gang jumped out a car, smashed both my car up and my house windows, and came back later in the evening to finish the job off. I thought it was safe parking it at my daughter’s house, but clearly not.”
Car torched at daughter’s home
After the initial attack, Audrey moved her car to her daughter’s home on nearby Gartmore Terrace in Cambuslang to keep it safe. However, the same mob targeted it again in the early hours of Tuesday, June 30. Dramatic footage shows flames engulfing the vehicle after the gang torched it. The car was completely destroyed.
Audrey added: “These people think I’m someone I’m not. I live on my own. This has to stop. I don’t even want to leave my house in case they come back.”
Residents in fear
Frightened residents who heard explosions outside their homes said they fear being targeted too. One local, who shared footage of the blaze anonymously, said: “I was in my bed, but wide awake and could hear noises outside. Then I heard a big smash of glass, looked outside and within seconds the car was up in flames.”
Rochelle Saw commented: “Absolutely disgusting! Feel bad for the owners because they are the ones who’ll have to replace them and take the hit with their insurance while there’s no consequences for the culprits.”
Police investigation ongoing
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 1.55am on Tuesday 30 June, 2026, police received a report of a car on fire in the Gartmore Terrace area of Cambuslang. The fire was extinguished by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and is being treated as wilful. Enquiries are ongoing.”
