A man in his 20s who flagged down a police car for help after being stabbed multiple times has died from his injuries. The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 22, shortly after 10.45pm, when an officer on patrol in London Road, near Saxby Street, was stopped by the injured man.
The man had suffered significant injuries to his chest and stomach, according to Leicestershire Police. The East Midlands Ambulance Service was called, and he was taken to hospital, where he died in the early hours of Thursday, July 23.
Police believe stabbing occurred in De Montfort Place
Leicestershire Police believe the man was stabbed in De Montfort Place, which is behind several properties on London Road. The man sustained multiple injuries, including three stab wounds. A post-mortem examination found he died as a result of his injuries.
An extensive policing operation has been underway, and six men have been arrested. The men, aged between 18 and 33, have all been arrested on suspicion of murder. One of the men has also been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class B drugs.
Detective appeals for information
Detective Inspector Lorna Granville, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team, said: “Following the death of the man, specialist trained officers have identified his next of kin and are supporting them. I would like to express my sincere condolences to them at this difficult time.
“This investigation remains ongoing with teams of dedicated officers and staff working to understand what has occurred and the events leading up to the injured man being found.
“Following extensive enquiries, we have made a number of arrests today. The six men in custody will now be interviewed while we continue to gather information and evidence in relation to the incident.
“I would like to thank people who live and work in the area for coming forward with information and assisting us, particularly in relation to capturing vital CCTV from last night.
“If anyone has not yet contacted police but has information or was driving in the area last night between 10.30pm and 11pm, please come forward. Even the smallest detail could assist us in our investigation.”
