Man Rushes to Help Woman, Gets Hit by Her Car

Gary Bridge, a 61-year-old man from Stockport, was left trapped under a car after rushing to help a woman who suffered a suspected medical episode while driving. The incident occurred on Stockport Road near Lyndhurst Avenue on June 24 at around 5:20 p.m.

Collision and Rescue

Bridge's vehicle was struck by the woman's car, which then hit a lamppost. After getting out to check on her, the car jolted forward and rolled over him. His son, Jack Bridge, who was celebrating his 26th birthday at a nearby pub, said his father was pinned under the vehicle for several minutes. A passer-by used a car jack to lift the vehicle and free Gary.

Jack Bridge told reporters, "Her car then went actually over him. It mounted the wall before the car dropped, falling on my dad. I'm not sure how long he was under the car for. It must have been for a couple of minutes, something was dripping on him, it burnt his shoulder and he's been left with a burn mark."

Medical History and Outcome

Gary Bridge has a history of health issues, including a heart attack and a stroke in recent years. Despite being trapped, he sustained only minor cuts, bruises, and a burn mark. An air ambulance was called to the scene, but he did not require hospitalisation.

Jack Bridge expressed gratitude for his father's survival: "I'm very thankful he is still here. I can't stop thinking about it." He described his father as "the most mentally resilient man" but noted the collision has left him shaken. "He thought that was it," Jack added.

Police Response

Greater Manchester Police attended the scene along with paramedics. No arrests were made, and there is no ongoing investigation into the incident. It is understood the female driver suffered a medical episode.
