Lathan Middleton, 35, has been sentenced to three years in prison for a series of violent attacks on a pregnant woman, including kicking her in the stomach while she was six weeks pregnant. The assaults took place over several months in 2025 and 2026.
Attacks detailed in court
Lincoln Crown Court heard that Middleton first attacked the victim in July 2025, punching her eight times in the face and leaving her with a suspected broken nose. In December 2025, he knocked her down in an alleyway and kicked her in the stomach, knowing she was pregnant. The woman was left in the alley for 10 minutes before an elderly couple helped her.
In May 2026, Middleton visited her home to collect his belongings and, as he left, grabbed her by the throat.
Guilty pleas and sentencing
Middleton, of no fixed address, admitted two charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and one count of intentional strangulation. His defence barrister, Neil Sands, stated that Middleton's best mitigation was his guilty pleas, avoiding a trial that would have put the victim through further distress.
Judge Catarina Sjolin-Knight deemed Middleton a dangerous offender and imposed an additional two years on an extended licence after his release. She told him: 'You are repeatedly violent, that is your fault, certainly not a pregnant woman's. You kicked her to the stomach. She was pregnant and you knew that. You left her in the alleyway for 10 minutes where an elderly couple helped her.'
