Greater Manchester Police have provided an update on a violent incident near the IKEA store in Ashton-under-Lyne, where a man was seriously injured following an altercation with a driver. The suspect, who was arrested on suspicion of assault, has since been released on bail pending further investigations.
Details of the Incident
The attack occurred on Oldham Road at approximately 5:15pm on Saturday, June 13. The victim, a man in his 50s, was crossing the road near Keane Street, close to the IKEA store, when he became involved in a dispute with the driver of a vehicle. He sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
Emergency services, including police and paramedics, responded to the scene. A 32-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault. In an update issued on June 16, a GMP spokesperson confirmed that the suspect has been bailed pending further enquiries. The victim remains in hospital.
Police Appeal for Information
Authorities are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. They are particularly interested in dashcam, CCTV, or mobile phone footage captured between 5:00pm and 5:15pm on the day of the incident. The suspect's vehicle is believed to be a dark-coloured estate car.
