An Alabama man died of a heart attack while attempting to discard his girlfriend's body after fatally strangling her, according to authorities. The macabre discovery was made on the morning of 10 June in a wooded area near Lanett, Alabama.
Bodies Found Near Abandoned Vehicle
Chambers County sheriff's deputies found Daniel Robbins, 44, and Jessica Folds, 47, dead next to each other near an abandoned vehicle. The truck was still running with the driver's side door open, and the tailgate was down. Drag marks led into the woods where the couple were found.
Autopsy Results Reveal Cause of Death
Autopsies conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Science determined that Folds was strangled. Robbins died of a heart attack while trying to dispose of her body, said District Attorney Mike Segrest. "He died of a heart attack while doing it," Segrest told AL.com. "Their bodies were right there together."
Investigators Suspect Domestic Violence
Segrest stated that investigators believe Robbins killed Folds as an act of domestic violence. The couple had been in a relationship, and the incident likely occurred the previous night, based on the truck still running when deputies arrived.
Victims Remembered
Folds was the mother of three adult sons. An obituary described her as having "a heart of gold, deep love for everyone, and a smile that brightened the world." Robbins is survived by a daughter.
