Man dead, 3 hurt in Bedford industrial estate blast

A man has died and three others have been taken to hospital after a suspected explosion at an industrial estate in Bedford. Bedfordshire Police said officers were called to reports of a blast at an industrial unit on Brunel Road at approximately 3:50pm on Thursday.

Witness describes loud blast

A local resident who was nearby said on social media that "it sounded like a bomb going off." Another post responding to the police update stated: "Did sound like an explosion of some sort, followed by the sound of lots of debris falling."

Police statement and investigation

Police confirmed that one man died at the scene, and three others were taken to hospital for medical treatment. Officers are expected to remain at the scene until the investigation is handed over to the Health and Safety Executive.
