A man is in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed on a street in Tameside.

The incident unfolded on Cavendish Street in Ashton-under-Lyne at around 10.45pm on Tuesday evening (July 28). Police said officers descended on the scene following reports of a stabbing.
The man, aged in his 30s, was found to have suffered a knife wound. He was rushed to hospital from the scene. He is in a critical but stable condition, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said.
Investigation underway
The stabbing is believed to have happened near the road's junction with Bank Street. Pictures showed blood spattered on the pavement on the street on Wednesday morning. It has not been confirmed whether any arrests have been made.
In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Officers were called reports of a stabbing on Cavendish Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, yesterday evening at around 10:43pm. Emergency services attended the scene and found a male in his 30s with injuries consistent with a knife wound. He was taken to hospital. He is being treated and remains in a critical but stable condition. Enquiries are ongoing."
