A man is in a critical condition in hospital after a crash inside the Queensway Tunnel in Birkenhead. The tunnel was closed for several hours on Tuesday, August 11, following the incident.
Crash details
Emergency services were called to the scene of a one-vehicle crash just before 1.05pm. The rider of the Sur-ron bike, a man in his 20s from Liverpool, was taken to hospital where he remains in a "critical" condition.
The crash occurred on the Birkenhead to Liverpool carriageway, about two thirds of the way through the tunnel. Merseyside Police is appealing for anyone who saw the bike entering the toll booth area at Birkenhead to contact the force.

A spokesperson said: "We also know that there were a number of vehicles travelling in the opposite direction who would have seen the bike."
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the Lead Investigating Officer from the Merseyside Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "I would like to thank everyone for their patience as we dealt with the incident in the Queensway Tunnel yesterday.
"The tunnel was closed for a number of hours to allow us to carry out vital investigation work. The rider of the bike remains in a critical condition in hospital and our thoughts are with his family.
"We are currently speaking to witnesses and reviewing CCTV to establish what has taken place in the lead-up to the collision and I would ask anyone who saw the bike or witnessed the collision to contact us."
