A 22-year-old man has been charged with murder following a fatal stabbing on a busy high street in north-west London. Kevon Jenkins, 22, of Wharton Close, Brent, is accused of killing Micah Whitely, also 22, on High Road, Wembley, just before 1pm on Monday.
Paramedics fought to save Mr Whitely's life outside a Post Office, in front of horrified shoppers, before he was rushed to hospital where he later died. A delivery driver working nearby described the scene as 'terrifying', with shoppers running and taking cover, including mothers with prams and children.
Jenkins is due to appear at Highbury Magistrates' Court on Thursday charged with murder and possession of a pointed and bladed article, namely a knife. A 21-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released under investigation.
Detective Chief Superintendent Luke Williams said: 'My thoughts are with the victim's loved ones at this unimaginably difficult time. Knife crime has a devastating impact on communities.' He added that residents can expect an increased police presence in the area over the coming days.
Forensic officers have been examining the scene, and detectives are reviewing CCTV footage. A formal post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The Metropolitan Police said the victim's family are being supported by specialist officers.
