Shooting Incident in Moreton Leads to Charges
A 38-year-old man has been charged after shots were fired at a house in Moreton, Merseyside. Police were called on Sunday, July 19, following reports of CCTV footage showing a man firing a weapon at a house on Millhouse Mews at around 2.30am.
Officers responded swiftly and detained a suspect. A subsequent search of an address led to the seizure of an air rifle, a BB gun, and a zombie knife. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Suspect Identified and Charged
Gareth McAdam, 38, of Millhouse Mews in Moreton, has been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, harassment causing fear of violence, and possession of controlled Class A and B drugs (suspected cocaine and cannabis). He is due to appear at Wirral Adult Remand Court today, Tuesday July 21.
Police Statement on Community Safety
Detective Inspector Phil Ryan commented: "Seizing the air rifle, BB gun and knife means there are less weapons on our streets which could have been used to cause fear and intimidation in our communities." He emphasised the importance of community intelligence, stating: "We rely on community intelligence to discover where weapons are being stored and who is using them and I would ask that the public to be our eyes and ears."
DI Ryan added: "To the untrained eye, an air rifle and BB guns can cause fear and harm to people who wouldn’t know the difference between them or a more dangerous weapon if confronted with one." He urged the public to report information, noting that "this makes a huge difference in identifying suspects, seizing weapons and removing suspects who would bring lethal weapons onto our streets."
