Man charged after Gorton crash killed two

Apollo Simms, 26, has been charged with two counts of death by dangerous driving and failing to provide a sample for analysis following a fatal crash in Gorton.

Crash details

The incident occurred on the A57 Hyde Road at around 9.35pm on August 5. Emergency services attended the scene near the junction with Clumber Road after a car hit a stationary digger.

Four people were inside the car at the time. A young man and a woman, aged 23 and 24, tragically died at the scene. Two men were taken to hospital with serious injuries and subsequently arrested. One man was later released on bail.

Charges and court appearance

In an update issued on August 11, Greater Manchester Police confirmed that Simms, of Tealby Road, Manchester, has been charged. He is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court today.
