Parvez Ahmed Rahman, 33, has been charged with attempted murder and failing to stop after a road collision following the death of a cyclist in east London.
The incident occurred at around 11.15pm on Thursday August 6, when police were called to reports of a collision involving a car and cyclist on Aylward Street in Stepney Green. A video has since circulated on social media which appears to show a car hitting a cyclist at high speed.
The cyclist was taken to hospital, where he died on Sunday. He has been named as 51-year-old Chris Powell, whose next-of-kin are being supported by specialist officers.
Court appearance and appeal
Rahman appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court on Saturday where he was remanded into custody, and he will next appear at the Old Bailey on September 4.
Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the Met's investigation, said: “Our thoughts remain with Christopher's family and friends at this extremely difficult time.
“As we try to build up a full picture of the incident, we are appealing to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any relevant information - particularly anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage.”
