Gareth Morgan, 40, of Lougher Place, North Cornelly, was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court after admitting possession of cannabis. The court heard that on September 6, 2025, at 6.45pm, plain-clothed police officers on mobile patrol in an unmarked vehicle saw Morgan in a Skoda Octavia in the Aberkenfig area of Bridgend.
Details of the incident
Prosecution barrister Megan Eckley told the court that cash was visible in the centre console of the car, and that there was also a large quantity of vapes, including Ghost branded boxes, with three devices found to contain Delta-9 THC cannabis.
During a search of his person and the vehicle, Morgan, who told officers at the scene that he bought and sold vapes, attempted to run away and threw a mobile phone into a bush. He was then detained and arrested.
Court proceedings
Police found £1,715 in cash, disposable vapes, and mobile telephones. Morgan was interviewed at a police station but answered 'no comment' to questions which were put to him.
The court heard he has 15 previous convictions for 32 offences, seven being drug-related matters.
Adam Sharp, representing Morgan, said: “He has pleaded guilty on the first occasion and there's genuine remorse. The offence took place a year ago and he hasn't committed any further offences.
“The defendant is regarded as being a committed family man and has two children. He is somebody whose absence would be very painfully felt by people who are blameless in all of this.”
Sentencing
Recorder Simon Hughes, sentencing Morgan, told him he had “an appalling record”, fining him £1,000, and a further £500 in costs. A forfeiture and destruction order has been made for the vapes and mobile phones.
