A man who attempted to intervene in a dispute on a popular North East beach was attacked with a bottle, sustaining head injuries. The incident occurred on Sandhaven Beach in South Shields shortly before 3.55pm on Monday, May 25.

Incident Details

Police were alerted to an injured man in the dunes. Officers already on duty in the area swiftly attended, where it was reported that a man and a woman had been involved in a disturbance. Another man then tried to intervene and was assaulted by a group of people with a bottle.

The victim, aged in his 30s, sustained minor injuries to his head and was taken to hospital for treatment. He was later discharged.

Arrest and Investigation

A 14-year-old boy was arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was later released under investigation pending further enquiries. An investigation into the assault has been underway since the report was made, and today (Tuesday) officers have issued an appeal for witnesses.
