A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a three-year-old girl in Chertsey, Surrey. Surrey Police discovered the girl deceased after being called to a property on Pyrcroft Road at approximately 5:40pm on Thursday, following reports of safety concerns.

Arrest and Investigation

The man was arrested at the scene and subsequently taken to hospital. Police have stated that he will be taken into custody once he has received medical treatment. The force's major crime team is leading the investigation, and a spokesperson confirmed that they believe the death occurred “within a family setting” and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

“This is a tragic incident, and our officers are working hard to build a picture of what happened,” the spokesperson said. “We have made an arrest in connection with this incident and at this stage, we are not looking to identify anyone else in connection with our investigation. We have no reason to believe there is any risk to the public.”

Floral tributes, consisting of eight bouquets of flowers, have been left at the entrance to Syward Place, a flat complex on the corner of Pyrcroft Road and Bell Bridge Road. While the police presence outside the building has diminished, officers remain visible in the reception area and along a ground-floor corridor.

“There is a significant police presence in Pyrcroft Road and this will remain over the coming days,” the spokesperson added. “We appreciate that the incident itself, as well as the significant police presence, will be concerning for local residents and we would like to thank them for their co-operation as we conduct our investigation.”
