Man arrested after wife beheaded and father killed in India

A man has been arrested in eastern India after allegedly beheading his wife and killing his father before placing her severed head at a temple. The incident occurred on Monday night in the state of West Bengal, according to police.

Double killing and temple discovery

The suspect, identified as Mangal Choudhury, is accused of killing his 39-year-old wife, Rumpa Choudhury, with a sharp weapon. He then allegedly placed her severed head at a nearby temple, causing panic among local residents.

Police also accuse Mangal of killing his father, Rajendra Choudhury, who was around 60 years old. Rajendra's body was later found in the courtyard of the family home. The suspect is also alleged to have attempted to attack his brother, who managed to escape.

Police response and investigation

Officers from two local police stations responded to the scene after being alerted. The bodies were recovered, and arrangements were being made for post-mortem examinations, according to police sources cited by the Times of India.

Investigators are now trying to establish a motive for the killings. They are also examining the circumstances surrounding the deaths, including whether anyone else may have encouraged the suspect. Investigators are also looking into whether there could be any connection to occult practices.

Arrest and hospitalisation

Residents reportedly told officers that Mangal and his wife regularly prayed at a temple. Mangal was arrested on Monday but could not immediately be brought before a court. Police said he had suffered an injury to his finger and was admitted to Bankura Sammilani Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
