A 38-year-old man has been arrested and remains in police custody after two young girls, aged five and six, were allegedly approached and grabbed by a man wearing only one shoe in Ormesby, North Yorkshire.

Incident Details

The incident occurred in the Allendale Road area of Ormesby at approximately 3:45 PM on Monday, according to Cleveland Police. The man, who was also carrying a silver suitcase, allegedly attempted to seize the children by the wrist. When the girls refused, the man tried to entice them, but they managed to run away.

Suspect Description

The suspect was described as a white male of slim build, dressed in black or dark clothing, wearing one shoe, and carrying a silver suitcase. Following the report, police launched an investigation, including speaking with the victims, the local school, conducting CCTV inquiries, and having officers speak to people in the local area.

Arrest and Current Status

On Tuesday night, Cleveland Police confirmed that a 38-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident. He remains in police custody. Prior to the arrest, Acting Sergeant Donnelly from the Greater Eston Neighbourhood Team said: "This incident will understandably have caused some concern for our communities. We have carried out a number of inquiries already, including speaking with the victims, the local school, CCTV inquiries and having officers speaking to people in the local area."
