A 38-year-old man remains in police custody after two young girls, aged five and six, were allegedly approached and grabbed by a man wearing only one shoe in Ormesby, North Yorkshire. The incident occurred on the Allendale Road area at approximately 3.45pm on Monday, according to Cleveland Police.
Details of the incident
The suspect, described as a slim white male dressed in black or dark clothing, was carrying a silver suitcase and reportedly attempted to seize the children by the wrist. A police spokesperson stated: "When they refused, the man tried to entice them, and they managed to run away." The man was also noted to be wearing only one shoe.
Arrest and investigation
The 38-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday night and is currently in custody. Prior to the arrest, acting Sergeant Donnelly from the Greater Eston Neighbourhood Team said: "This incident will understandably have caused some concern for our communities." He added: "We have carried out a number of inquiries already, including speaking with the victims, the local school, CCTV inquiries and having officers speaking to people in the local area."
