Man Arrested After Treforest House Fire, No Injuries

A man has been arrested following a dramatic house fire that broke out in the early hours of the morning in a Valleys town. Emergency services were called to a blaze on Wood Road in Treforest, Pontypridd, shortly after 2am on Wednesday morning.

Arrest Made

A 23-year-old man from Treforest was arrested on suspicion of attempt arson with intent to endanger life in connection with the fire. He remains in police custody, a spokesperson for South Wales Police confirmed.

Footage from the scene showed flames emerging from a first-floor window of a terraced house, with a significant emergency services presence. No injuries were reported, emergency services have confirmed.

Emergency Response

Multiple crews from South Wales Fire and Rescue Service (SWFRS) battled the blaze for over an hour. The fire service was called shortly after 2am, and the fire was brought under control by around 3.30am.

A fire service spokesperson stated: "SWFRS received a call at approximately 2.02am to reports of a domestic fire at a property on Wood Road, Treforest, Pontypridd. Crews and appliances from Pontypridd, Abercynon, Tonypandy, and Whitchurch attended a domestic fire involving a two-storey mid-terrace property. All persons were accounted for."

Crews extinguished the fire using four breathing apparatus, one main jet, one hose reel jet, a safety jet, a thermal imaging camera, and a ceiling hook. The cause of the fire is not yet determined. Stop message was received around 3.34am.

Police Statement

A police spokesperson said: "South Wales Police was called to assist with a house fire at an address on Wood Road in Treforest at 2am this morning. A 23-year-old man from Treforest has been arrested on attempt arson with intent to endanger life and remains in police custody. No injuries have been reported."

A police presence remains at the scene on Wood Road on Wednesday morning.
