A 34-year-old man from Huyton has been arrested following a collision in Old Swan that left a cyclist seriously injured.
Shortly before 6.30pm on Monday, August 3, Merseyside Police received a report that a man in his 30s riding a bike had been hit by a van on Prescot Road, near the junction with Ennismore Road. The cyclist was taken to hospital with a leg injury and is in a serious but stable condition.
Arrest and investigation
The white van was driven away from the scene, and a police cordon was set up. Following enquiries, the 34-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving, drink driving, drug driving, driving while disqualified, and failing to stop. He has been taken into custody for questioning.
Appeal for witnesses
Chief Inspector Steve Fenna said: "The cyclist has been left requiring treatment for serious injuries and we are keen to understand exactly what happened."
He added: "While officers have deployed to speak to potential witnesses and explore CCTV in the area, we are asking any potential witnesses or drivers with dashcam to get in touch. If you were in the area just before 6.30pm, have dashcam and may have captured any part of this incident or those involved, we would like to hear from you."
"Front and rear dashcams often capture things the driver didn’t notice at the time, so please check yours if you were driving on Prescot Road at this time. No matter how insignificant your information or footage may initially seem, it could prove vital to our enquiries."
