A 92-year-old man has died after being struck by a van in south London, and a 72-year-old driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Collision on Curnick’s Lane
Police were called at around 2.55pm on Thursday, September 24, to reports of a collision between a van and a pedestrian on Curnick’s Lane, West Norwood.
Officers and paramedics attended the scene, where the 92-year-old man was pronounced dead. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
Driver in custody
The van driver, a 72-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death whilst driving without insurance and causing death by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.
Detective Sergeant Kirsty Troy, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a devastating incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this tragic loss.
“While we have made one arrest already in connection with this incident, we are now working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
“I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time, or may have captured dashcam, CCTV or doorbell camera footage, to contact police as this information could be crucial in our investigation.”
