A motorcyclist who died in a collision on the A57 Snake Pass in the Peak District has been identified as 39-year-old Matthew Beetenson. The single-vehicle crash involved a Honda motorcycle near the junction with the A6013 for Bamford on June 20, according to Derbyshire Police.
Emergency Response and Road Closure
Police and paramedics attended the scene, but Matthew was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident. A Derbyshire Constabulary spokesperson said at the time: "A section of the A57 Snake Pass is currently closed following a crash involving a motorcycle. The part of the road which is shut is near to the junction with the A6013 turn off for Bamford. The road is expected to be shut for some time whilst emergency services deal with the incident. Motorists are advised to please use alternative routes at this time."
Family Tribute
Matthew, from Sheffield, was remembered by his family as someone who was "loved by so many." In a statement released through Derbyshire Police, his loved ones said: "We’re all trying to come to terms with the tragic news. He was loved by so many, it’s only now we’re realising just how many people’s lives he had a positive impact on. We’d like to thank everyone who’s sent their condolences - the kind words received from the people that knew him have been a comfort since we received the news."
The incident occurred on the A57 Snake Pass, a notorious route through the Peak District known for its winding roads and frequent accidents. Police have not released further details about the cause of the crash, but investigations are ongoing.
