A 38-year-old man has died following a collision involving three cars on the M56 motorway. The man, from Golborne in Wigan, was a pedestrian on the motorway when the incident occurred.
Cheshire Police said the collision happened at around 12.50am on Monday, August 31. The man was struck by three vehicles: a black Dacia Duster, a red Kia Niro and a black Ford Focus.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been informed.
Motorway closure and investigation
The eastbound carriageway was shut between junction 14 for Chester Services and junction 12 for Runcorn while emergency crews responded. The road remained closed until around 9.15am while accident investigation work was carried out.
Detective Sergeant Russ Sime, of Cheshire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the family of the deceased. Enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision are ongoing and as part of the investigation we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or believes they may have seen the pedestrian on the motorway prior to the collision, to get in touch."
