A 102-year-old man who was taken to hospital in a critical condition after an alleged assault at a pub in south Wales has died, police have confirmed.
Police and paramedics were called to reports of an assault at The Crow’s Nest pub in Cwmbran at around 10.25pm on Saturday, August 1. The man, named as Phillip Ormerod from Cwmbran, was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police confirm death
In an update issued by Gwent Police on Thursday, it was announced that Mr Ormerod has since died.
A 56-year-old man from Llanelli who was arrested on suspicion of section 20 assault has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Senior investigating officer, DCI Shelley Comley said: “We understand the public interest in this incident but want to remind people that not only is this an active criminal investigation but there is a family at heart of it processing the loss of a loved one.
“Please consider the impact that inaccurate or speculative comments – particularly online commentary - could have on them and the ongoing investigation as a whole.”
A Gwent Police spokesperson added: "Anyone who was in the pub between 10pm and 11pm on Saturday 1 August and hasn’t yet spoken to police is asked to contact us."
