M60 Shuts After Man Falls From Bridge, Critical

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after falling from a bridge on the M60 motorway in Tameside. Emergency crews were called to the scene between junctions 23 and 24, near Denton and Ashton-under-Lyne, at around 8:30pm on Monday evening (June 15) following reports of a welfare concern. The motorway was fully closed in both directions as police and paramedics responded.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) stated that officers were alerted to a man standing on the wrong side of a bridge. The individual subsequently fell onto the carriageway below. He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a critical condition.

The closure stretched between junctions 23 and 24, causing significant disruption. Drivers were advised to seek alternative routes. The motorway reopened at approximately 10:30pm after investigations were completed.

A GMP spokesperson said: “At around 8:32pm on Monday 15 June, we were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a man on the wrong side of a bridge between Junctions 23 and 24 of the M60 in Tameside. Emergency services attended, however the man had fallen. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains in a critical condition. Enquiries are ongoing.”

No further details have been released at this stage. Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
