Loud Bang Wakes Neighbours in Halewood Crash Like 'Netflix Scene'
Loud Bang Wakes Neighbours in Halewood Crash Like Netflix

A Mercedes crashed into a van and a wall on Baileys Lane in Halewood in the early hours of Saturday, June 20, waking neighbours who described the loud bang as 'like something from Netflix'.

Stu Threlfall, 35, was asleep with his partner Roxanne when the crash occurred at around 2am. The couple rushed downstairs, careful not to wake their young son Teddy, and found that a Mercedes had hit Stu's work van. The van then spun into a neighbour's Dacia, and the Mercedes also struck the couple's front garden wall, destroying it.

The force of the impact shunted the Dacia so hard that it broke a small metal fence separating a patch of grass from the pavement. Debris from the damaged wall remained on the grass outside Stu's house.

Driver Miraculously Walks Away

Stu told the ECHO that the driver of the Mercedes got out of the car and spoke to a crowd of neighbours who had gathered after being woken by the bang. 'We were concerned about the driver because the car was badly damaged, the air bags had gone off and he just got out the car. We didn't know if he had any internal injuries or what but we just wanted to make sure he was okay,' Stu said.

'We're reasonable people and know this will all get sorted out so we just want to know he is okay. The fact he was able to get out and walk around was a miracle.'

Stu said he was awake until 5am, with the Mercedes being recovered at around 4am. 'It was like something from Netflix or out of a film it was that loud. People came from round the corner to see what had happened because the bang had woken them up. We've never experienced anything like this before.'

Neighbour Describes Fears of Fatality

Stu's neighbour, Ellie Wileman, 28, told the ECHO how the crash pushed their car with such force it broke a small metal barrier. 'The bang was that loud we thought it was something to do with a lorry. When we came outside the car had started smoking we called the fire brigade. The crash was that bad I thought someone had died in the car, I really can't believe he was able to get out and walk away but it must have been the adrenaline.'

Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service attended the scene in the early hours. It has not been confirmed what condition the driver is in or whether an arrest has been made, although Stu believes he was taken to hospital following the crash. Merseyside Police has been approached for comment.
