At least 11 people have died in a wildfire in Los Gallardos, Almería, Spain, with four British nationals confirmed among the victims. The bodies were found in a burnt-out car with the steering wheel on the right, indicating British origin, according to Antonio Sanz, Andalusia’s health and emergencies minister.
Victims and Identification
The four bodies discovered inside the vehicle are believed to be of British origin. Seven other victims found near the village of Bédar are also thought to be foreign tourists, with possibly more British nationals among them. The victims apparently abandoned their vehicles and attempted to flee on foot through rugged terrain.
Rising Death Toll and Missing Persons
It is feared the death toll may rise as 19 people remain missing. Emergency services continue to search the affected areas. The wildfire has caused widespread devastation, with firefighters battling the blaze in the Almería province.
