A Liverpool woman has died after being struck by an e-bike in the city centre. Joanne Doyle, 57, was hit while crossing a zebra crossing and stepping onto the pavement near the Linda McCartney Centre.
The collision happened at around 3.35pm on Tuesday, July 7. Doyle was taken to hospital in a serious condition and died a week later on Friday, July 18. Kieran Connor Sewards, 31, of Chatsworth Drive, Edge Hill, was arrested and remanded into custody.
Court appearance and charges
On Tuesday, September 1, following further investigations, Sewards appeared before Liverpool Crown Court via video link charged with manslaughter and section 20 wounding. He entered not guilty pleas to both charges and was further remanded into custody.
His trial is scheduled to begin on Monday, February 8, 2027.
Family tribute
Doyle's family issued a tribute, describing her as "such a loving, kind and amazing mum, partner, sister, auntie and friend. A kind-hearted, generous soul who always put others before herself."
They added: "She was tragically and suddenly taken from us far too soon and will be missed forever."
Police statement
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, Lead Investigating Officer from Merseyside Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "My thoughts remain with Joanne's family, who continue to be supported by specially trained family liaison officers."
He added: "Her death has caused her loved ones the worst pain imaginable and we are determined to get the answers they deserve. Our investigation has led to a man being charged with manslaughter. As criminal proceedings are now active, it would be inappropriate to comment further on the facts of this case."
