New ref cam footage has emerged showing Jude Bellingham blasting the official's 'shocking decisions' after England's loss to Argentina. The South Americans overcame the Three Lions 2-1 in a heartbreaking World Cup battle on July 15.
Match controversies
It was a match which had its fair share of controversies, given the numerous fouls Argentina committed throughout the match. Moroccan-USA official Ismail Elfath endured a tough afternoon in Atlanta, with his appointment for the clash in Atlanta attracting plenty of scrutiny ahead of kick off.
Bellingham made his feelings about the referee clear after the final whistle, clearly angry at the way the match was officiated. On the ref-cam footage, Bellingham could be seen shaking the official's hand before saying, "Some shocking ones but all the best," before succumbing to tears after Thomas Tuchel's side went out with a whimper.
Foul count and impact
In total, Argentina committed 12 fouls in the first half alone against the Three Lions, but were only given one yellow card. They would go on to concede 15 in total in a fiery encounter against the fierce rivals. Bellingham was hauled to the ground on four occasions, as he looked to mount counterattacks. The Real Madrid ace's frustration with the Argentinians' physical approach was clear for all to see as they looked to stop him at all costs.
Goals and aftermath
Goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez in the final ten minutes of the game secured their place in the World Cup final, after Anthony Gordon had given England the lead in the 55th minute. Bellingham did go on to grab his seventh goal of the tournament in excellent fashion, scoring England's 6th in the 6-4 win over France in the third place play-off. In doing so, he became the first ever Englishman to score seven goals at a single World Cup.
Meanwhile, Argentina were beaten 1-0 by Spain in the World Cup final. There were ugly scenes after the final whistle, when several of their players sparked a brawl, throwing punches and fighting with their Spanish counterparts.
