William Lee Foulkes, 32, of Cae Derwen, Llanfair Talhaiarn, Conwy, has been jailed for four years after ramming a rented car into a police car, almost striking his mother in the process. The incident occurred in June outside his home, where he was found driving despite being banned.
Incident details
Foulkes, known as Lee, admitted dangerous driving and driving whilst disqualified. When PC Daniel Darbey approached, Foulkes drove towards the police car, ramming it multiple times. He then reversed at speed, nearly hitting his mother, Helen Foulkes, who was standing in the road blocking the officer. He fled, causing over £10,000 worth of damage.
Arrest and sentencing
Foulkes was arrested on 12 June in Criccieth by the Priority Crime Team, after taunting officers on social media. He also admitted possession of a Class A drug with intent to supply after being found with cocaine in Abergele in 2024, and having counterfeit £20 notes. At Mold Crown Court on August 5, he received a three-year sentence for the drugs offence, plus additional time for the driving offences.
His mother, Helen Foulkes, 51, was also sentenced for resisting an officer, fined £300 plus £200 in costs.
Police reaction
PC Darbey said: "Foulkes knew he shouldn't have been behind the wheel and to evade police, he put members of the public at risk with his dangerous driving, as well as almost striking his own mother. His recklessness could easily have caused a serious injury or worse, including to his mother, and it is lucky that no one was hurt due to his dangerous behaviour."
Detective Chief Inspector Simon Kneale added: "We make every effort to locate wanted people and bring them to justice to protect our communities. We remain committed to pursuing criminals like Foulkes by disrupting their activity and I welcome this sentence that will see him behind bars for some time."
