ITV has unveiled the first look at a gripping new six-part serial killer drama, featuring stars from Outlander and Trigger Point. The broadcaster has enjoyed a successful year with major dramas, including Gone starring Eve Myles and David Morrissey, the return of Red Eye for a second series, and the espionage thriller Betrayal. Last month also saw the release of Believe Me, based on the true story of victims of sex offender John Worboys.
The Dark: A Chilling New Series
ITV has released the first trailer for The Dark, a six-part drama described as 'chilling'. The series stars Laura Donnelly and Mark Rowley and is set in the idyllic Scottish wilderness. The discovery of a young man's body sends a community into a spiral of paranoia and suspicion.
Plot Synopsis
Detective Monica Kennedy fears this is just the beginning of a terrifying campaign that will strike the heart of a rural community. As paranoia rises, suspicions and secrets are forced into the light, and the locals realize there is a serial killer hidden among them. With her experience dealing with the darkest of humanity, Kennedy becomes entangled in a game of cat and mouse with a cunning killer. However, when her own history creeps up on her, she begins to lose trust in her own judgment, risking herself and her family.
Cast and Adaptation
Laura Donnelly, a Laurence Olivier Award winner, is known for her work in Outlander, Beowulf, and The Nevers. Mark Rowley rose to fame in River City and has appeared in Trigger Point, The Witcher: Blood Origin, and The Spanish Princess. The series is adapted from GR Halliday's debut novel From the Shadows by Matt Hartley and supported by The National Lottery through Screen Scotland.
The Dark will air on ITV, STV, and stream on ITVX and STV Player next month.
