Road closures are expected to remain in place in Huyton through the weekend after four men died in a crash early Friday. Merseyside Police were called to Liverpool Road just before 2am following reports a black Cupra had left the road and hit a lamppost.
Police confirmed that two men aged 23, a 24-year-old and a 26-year-old were killed. A 27-year-old passenger was taken to hospital and remains in a stable condition.
Road closures and restrictions
A large police scene is in place with closures on Shellingford Road, Prescot Road, Liverpool Road, Somerset Road, Back Dovecot Place, Dovecot Place, Taurus Road, Turriff Road, Dinas Lane, Lordens Road and Fincham Road. Liverpool Road and East Prescot Road are closed in both directions from Finch Lane to Princess Drive and are likely to remain closed over the weekend.
A temporary flight restriction zone under article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016 is in place above Liverpool Road, prohibiting drones. Exceptions include police drones, air ambulances, fire service drones and NPAS. Drone users flying without permission may be prosecuted and have equipment seized.
Police appeal
Superintendent Paul Holden said: "First and foremost our thoughts are with the family of the four men who sadly lost their lives following the collision in the early hours of this morning. Their families have been informed and are being supported by our specially trained family liaison officers. This is a truly devastating moment for their families and loved ones, and it is now our priority to get answers for them on how the collision occurred."
